Kokkoku Episode 10- Quick Developments

For something that spanned ten episodes, the ultimate fight ended too soon and too smoothly. Before you know it, Sagawa’s spilling out his past to Juri and Grandpa- who jumps at the chance of having his granddaughter saved. Jisan’s desperation is understandable, but it’s pretty weird that they would just watch Sagawa sit down and tell them his life story like an old man.

I wouldn’t have a problem with the short fight if it was a good one but it’s all over the place. I can argue that Juri and company know nothing about action of any kind, leading it to be more scattered, but you just don’t wait for your enemy to gain power instead of attacking the moment they’re disarmed. You just don’t. In shounen? Yes. In an anime that’s trying to be realistic despite a supernatural theme? No.

Takafumi has got to be the biggest disappointment. There was no need to introduce him as a vile person for any reason since ultimately, he was barely useful, whether for helping or messing things up. They could have let Makoto’s powers be revealed to his family from the start since it barely lasted an episode.

Sagawa’s entire story and motive should be good, really good for this show to leave at least some sense of fulfillment behind. On one hand though, this is Geno Studio’s first animation series project, and for that they did a pretty good job since while boring at times, it hasn’t done that poorly yet.
